Plastics such as sheeting, poly tunnels and wrapping for fruit and vegetable pallets are widely used to protect, ripen and bring on young plants. They do this by controlling the flow of various gasses – principally oxygen and CO2 during respiration, ethylene (a gaseous plant hormone) during ripening and water vapour to prevent rot.

Different agricultural plastics need to offer very different vapour permeabilities based to the job in hand and these are often highly plant dependent. Versaperm's latest permeability measurement and testing equipment allows these needs to be met and optimised not just for conventional plastics but also for the modern multi-layer "designer" plastics which can provide highly specific control over vapour flow.

The new single or multi-chamber range of instruments allows you to measure the vapour permeability of a wide range of agricultural materials and it can be configured to determine for almost any common gas or gasses.

The Versaperm system produces precise results, quickly, accurately and with minimal operator training.  It is typically accurate to a few parts per million (ppm) or even per billion in some cases and produces results in as little as 30 minutes for some materials.  This is considerably quicker than conventional gravimetric measurements, which take days, weeks or even months.

For companies who test too few samples to make the purchase of equipment viable, Versaperm also offers a fast turnaround laboratory testing service.
